الحمد لله
الرحمن والرحيم اسمان من أسماء الله تعالى ، يدلان على اتصاف الله تعالى بالرحمة .
والرحمن يدل على سعة رحمة الله ، والرحيم يدل على إيصالها لخلقه ، فالرحمن : ذو الرحمة الواسعة ، والرحيم : ذو الرحمة الواصلة .
قال الشيخ ابن عثيمين رحمه الله : الرحمن : هو ذو الرحمة الواسعة ؛ لأن فَعْلان في اللغة العربية تدل على السعة والامتلاء ، كما يقال : رجل غضبان ، إذا امتلأ غضبا .
الرحيم : اسم يدل على الفعل ؛ لأنه فعيل بمعنى فاعل ، فهو دال على الفعل ، فيجتمع من " الرحمن الرحيم " أن رحمة الله واسعة ، وتؤخذ من " الرحمن "، وأنها واصلة إلى الخلق ، وتؤخذ من " الرحيم " ، وهذا ما رمى إليه بعضهم بقوله : الرحمن : رحمة عامة ، و الرحيم : رحمة خاصة بالمؤمنين . ولكن ما ذكرناه أولى .

The difference between al-Rahmaan and al-Raheem

Praise be to Allaah. Al-Rahmaan and al-Raheem are two of the names of Allaah which refer to Allaah’s attribute of Mercy.
Al-Rahmaan refers to the vastness of Allaah’s mercy, and al-Raheem refers to its effect on His creation. So al-Rahmaan is the Owner of vast Mercy, and al-Raheem is the Owner of Mercy that encompasses His creation.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “Al-Rahmaan is the Owner of vast mercy, because the fa’laan form in Arabic indicates vastness and abundance, as it is said rajal ghadbaan (a very angry man) when he is filled with anger.
Al-Raheem is a name which refers to the action, as the fa’eel form refers to the doer of an action. So the phrase al-Rahmaan al-Raheem indicates that the mercy of Allaah is vast, as is understood from the name al-Rahmaan, and that it encompasses His creation, as is understood from the name al-Raheem. This is what some of them meant when they said that al-Rahmaan refers to mercy in a general sense and al-Raheem refers to mercy that is specifically for the believers. But what we have mentioned is more accurate.”

Ar-Rahmane et ar-Rahime font partie des noms d'Allah Très Haut qui indiquent que la miséricorde est un attribut d'Allah Très Haut. Ar-Rahmane (Le Clément) indique l'ampleur de la miséricorde et ar-Rahime (Le Miséricordieux) indique que la créature en bénéficie. Ar-Rahmane est celui qui détient une immense clémence et ar-Rahime signifie qu'il en fait bénéficier la créature.
Cheikh Ibn Outhaymine (Puisse Allah lui accorder Sa miséricorde) a dit: « ar-Rahmane est celui qui possède une immense miséricorde. Car la formule fa'alaan en langue arabe indique l'ampleur. C'est pourquoi on emploie la formule ghadbane pour décrire un homme complètement dominé par la colère. Ar-rahime est un attribut qui traduit un acte. Car la formule fa'iil équivaut ici à la formule fa'il indique l'auteur de l'acte. Aussi Rahmane et Rahime réunis indiquent l'ampleur de la miséricorde divine et que toute la créature en bénéficie. C'est ce qu'entendent dire certains quand ils avancent que Rahmane véhicule une miséricorde générale et ar-Rahime indique une miséricorde réservée aux croyants. Mais ce que nous avons dit mérite mieux d'être retenu.
