السؤال

تعلمنا في الصغر أنه يُستحب للشخص أن يقول "الله أكبر" إذا صعد الدرج، وأن يقول "سبحان الله" إذا نزل. فهل لهذا أصل في الشرع؟ أرجو التوضيح وجزاكم الله خيرًا.

الحمد لله :
روى البخاري في صحيحه :2993. عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ " كُنَّا إِذَا صَعِدْنَا كَبَّرْنَا وَإِذَا نَزَلْنَا سَبَّحْنَا " .
وروى أبو داود :2599: أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَلَّمَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا اسْتَوَى عَلَى بِعِيرِهِ خَارِجًا إِلَى سَفَرٍ" كَبَّرَ ثَلَاثًا " ثُمَّ قَالَ " سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى ، وَمِنْ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى ، اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا ، اللَّهُمَّ اطْوِ لَنَا الْبُعْدَ ، اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ وَالْمَالِ " .
وَإِذَا رَجَعَ قَالَهُنَّ وَزَادَ فِيهِنَّ " آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ " .
وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجُيُوشُهُ " إِذَا عَلَوْا الثَّنَايَا كَبَّرُوا وَإِذَا هَبَطُوا سَبَّحُوا فَوُضِعَتْ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ " .
فمن استحب ذلك عند الصعود على السلم ونحوه ، رأى أن التكبير لأجل الصعود إلى العلو ، وهذا منه .
وأما من رأى أن التكبير عند الصعود على الدرج ونحوه غير مشروع ، فلأجل أن ذلك لم يرد إلا في حالة خاصة ، وهي حالة الصعود على جبل ونحوه في مسير المسافر ، وأما في حال صعود الدرج ونحوه ، فلم يرد ، مع أن هذا كان معتادا لهم ، وموجودا عندهم ، ولو كان مشروعا لفعله النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، أو علمه أصحابه ، كما علمهم ما يقولونه عند دخول البيت ، وعند الخروج منه ، ونحو ذلك من أذكار اليوم والليلة .
وهذا هو القول الراجح في المسألة .
وقد سئل الشيخ ابن عثيمين -رحمه الله- السؤال التالي : "جاء في الحديث عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم"أنه يكبر إذا صعد مشرفًا، ويسبح إذا نزل واديًا" وهل هذا التسبيح والتكبير خاص بالسفر، أم أنه يكبر ويسبح عند الصعود -مثلاً- في البيت إلى الدور الثاني والثالث، جزاكم الله خيرًا؟ " .
فأجاب :
" كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في أسفاره إذا علا صَعدًا كبر، وإذا نزل واديًا سبح، وذلك أن العالي على الشيء قد يتعاظم في نفسه، فيرى أنه كبير، فكان من المناسب أن يكبر الله عز وجل فيقول: الله أكبر، وأما إذا نزل فالنزول سفول فناسب أن يسبح الله عز وجل عند السفول، هذه هي المناسبة .
ولم ترد السنة بأن يفعل ذلك في الحضر، والعبادات مبنية على التوقيف، فيقتصر فيها على ما ورد، وعلى هذا فإذا صعد الإنسان الدرجة في البيت فإنه لا يكبر، وإذا نزل منها فإنه لا يسبح، وإنما يختص هذا في الأسفار" . انتهى من لقاءات الباب المفتوح 3/102.

Question

When I was young، I was taught in my school that we must say ALLAHU AKBAR (Allah is great) when going up the stairs and say SUBHANALLAH (Glory be to Allah) when coming down. Could you please explain if this is something that should be practiced in Islam.

Praise be to Allah. Al-Bukhari narrated in his Saheeh that Jabir ibn ‘Abd-Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we went up we would say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and when we went down we would say tasbeeh (Subhan Allah).
Abu Dawood narrated that Ibn ‘Umar taught him that when the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) got up on his camel, when he was setting out on a journey, he would say takbeer three times, then he would say: “Subhaan allathi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen wa inna ila rabbina la munqaliboon. Allaahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina haadha al-birra wa’l-taqwa wa min al-‘aml ma tarda, Allaahumma hawwin ‘alayna safarana haadha watwi ‘anna bu’dahu. Allaahumma anta al-saahib fi’l-safar wa’l-khaleefah fi’l-ahl (Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (the One Who guards them in a person’s absence) over the family).”
And when he returned he would say the same words and would add to them: “Ayiboona taiboona ‘abidoona li rabbina hamidoon (Returning, repenting, worshipping and praising our Lord).”
When the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and his army climbed a hill they would say takbeer and when they went downhill they would say tasbeeh.
Those scholars who say that this is mustahabb (recommended) when going up the stairs and so on, say that one should say takbeer when going up and that going up stairs or hills is the same thing.
But others say that saying takbeer when going up the stairs and so on is not prescribed, because that was not narrated except in specific circumstances, namely climbing up a mountain and the like when travelling; with regard to going up the stairs and so on, there is no such report, even though this was something known among them and they used to do it (i.e., climb up and down stairs etc). If it were prescribed, the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would have done it or he would have taught it to his companions as he taught them what to say when entering the house and when leaving it, and other adhkar (words of remembrance) to be recited every day and night.
This is the most correct view concerning this issue.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked the following question: It says in the hadeeth that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to say takbeer when climbing a hill and tasbeeh when going down into a valley. Is this takbeer and tasbeeh only when travelling, or did he say takbeer – for example – at home when going up to the second and third floor? May Allah reward you with good.
He replied:
During his journeys, when the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) climbed up a hill he would say takbeer, and when he went down into a valley he would say tasbeeh. That is because the one who is above a thing may feel proud and think that he is great, so it is appropriate for him to proclaim the greatness of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, by saying: Allahu akbar. And when he descends, he is going down to a lower level, so it is appropriate for him to glorify Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, when going down. This is the context of saying takbeer and tasbeeh.
But there is no report in the Sunnah (prophetic teachings) about doing that when not travelling. Acts of worship are based on tawqeef i.e., they are limited to what is narrated in sound reports. Based on that, when a person goes up the stairs in his house he does not have to say takbeer, and when he comes downstairs he does not have to say tasbeeh. Rather that only applies in the case of travelling.

Nous avons appris tout jeune qu'il est recommandé à celui qui prend l'escalier pour monter de dire: Allahou akbar et à celui qui le prend pour descendre de dire: soubhana Allah. Cela repose-t-il sur une loi religieuse?

Louanges à Allah
Al-Boukhari a rapporté dans son Sahih, 2993 d'après Djabir (P.A.a): «Quand nous montions, nous prononcions le takbir (Allah akbar) et quand nous descendions nous prononcions le tasbih (soubhana Allah).
Abou Daoud a rapporté (2599) d'après Ibn Omar que quand le Messager d'Allah (Bénédiction et salut soient sur lui) s'installait sur son chameau pour commencer un voyage , il prononçait le takbir trois fois puis il disait: «» (coran, 43+) Seigneur! Je te demande dans notre présent voyage la piété et la crainte révérencielle et l'œuvre que tu agrées. Seigneur! Raccourcis nous sa grande distance! Seigneur! Tu es le Compagnons de voyage et le Remplaçant auprès de la famille et dans les biens…A son retour de voyage, il répétait les mêmes propos en y ajoutant: bien rentrés en repentis dévoués au culte de notre Maître que nous louons.»
Le Prophète (Bénédiction et salut soient sur lui) et ses armés avaient l'habitude, chaque fois qu'ils se trouvaient sur une hauteur, de prononcer le takbir et de prononcer le tasbih chaque fois qu'ils venaient de descendre d'une pente. C'est sur cela que la prièrefut instituée.»
Si quelqu'un préfère imiter cette pratique quand il monte sur une échelle ou un autre objet pareille et pense qu'on prononce le takbir parce qu'on monte, c'est son idée à lui.
Quant à celui qui pense que la prononciation du takbir au moment de monter un escalier ou autre chose n'est pas institué, c'est parce que cela n'a été rapporté que dans un cas spécial concernant l'escalade d'une montagne ou autre chose pareille par un voyageur. Quant au fait de prendre un escalier ou chose pareille, rien n'a été rapporté le concernant, bien que cela existât et fût coutumier chez les compagnons. Si cette pratique était instituée, le Prophète (Bénédiction et salut soient sur lui) l'aurait appliquée et enseignée à ses compagnons comme il leur apprit ce qu'ils doivent dire quand ils rentrent ou sortent de chez eux et d'autres dhikr du jour et de la nuit. Voilà l'avis le mieux soutenu dans cette question.
Cheikh Ibn Outhaymine (Puisse Allah lui accorder Sa miséricorde) a été interrogé comme suit: il a été rapporté dans un hadith que le Prophète (Bénédiction et salut soient sur lui) prononçait le takbir chaque fois qu'il escaladait une hauteur et prononçait le tasbih quand il descendait dans une vallée…Ces tasbih et takbir sont ils réservés au voyage ou faut il les faire chez soi, par exemple, quant on se déplace du premier au deuxième étage. Puisse Allah vous récompenser par le bien?
Voici sa réponse: «le Prophète (Bénédiction et salut soient sur lui) avait l'habitude dans ces voyages de prononcer le takbir quand il se trouvait sur une hauteur et de prononcer le tasbih quand il se trouvait dans une vallée. C'est parce que celui qui se trouve sur une hauteur peut éprouver un sentiment de supériorité et se prend pour grand. Dans ce cas, il convient qu'il atteste la grandeur d'Allah le Puissant et Majestueux en disant : Allahou akbar. En entamant une descente, il se trouve dans une situation d'infériorité. Dès lors, il convient qu'il atteste la transcendance d'Allah. Voilà qui explique la pertinence (de la formule prononcée dans les deux situations).
La Sunna ne dit pas que cela doit être fait quand on est chez soi. Or les pratiques cultuelles sont reçues telles quelles. On se contente de ce qui a été reçu. Dès lors, quand on prend l'escalier pour monter on ne prononce pas le takbir. Quand on le prends pour descendre, on ne prononce pas le tasbih.
